I wonder... just wonder... Was the lack of any favorable items in CIR for either EB greencards or H1 B visas done with the knowledge that a week after the bills set back, all of a sudden a lot of people can apply for I485 (and hence take advantage of EAD/AP and eventually AC21 portability)...

With LC substitution Going away and 45 days between LC and I-140 and people able to apply in July for i-485 , with in next 3 months, INS will have a good knowledge how many are pending and how many years it will take .
Poeple should be able to get EAD and enjoy their time.
More H4's armed with EAD will enter the job market, Guess, more Testers, Java, .net developers driving the billing rates down and too much of unexpected mess

Could not agree more. We are masters of everything related to caste, quotas and discrimination and we need to fix our own house before complaining about other countries, airlines etc.

Also note, the attendance at short notice for the SJ rally was phenomenal.
Let's just say Californians are more motivated and active then many from the DC area, and you can expect an even larger crowd the next time around, with better planning and more time imo.

One reason for the poor performance from DC area folks is that a GC does not open many avenues for folks in DC area. You could change from a 70K job to 90K job, may be. In Silicon Valley there are many more opportunities. You are talking about a change from 80K to may be starting a million $$ company.

Lets pay them to get info. It is a drop in a bucket to what we are spending. If they provide obvious wrong info, we can sue them to get our money back and it will have enough press coverage then. They have a right to ask money for FOIA if it requires further searching. It is part of the Law. So they are right in asking for money.

You are also presuming a 100% credit worthiness and sign up rate - extremely optimistic. This would work when IV is about a million strong and if people like you and me become 'resident' aliens - and dont turn our backs on those behind us.
Many banks in the US will not allow you to add additional accounts like CD account etc ONLINE unless you are a GC holder or a citizen. They ask you to go to a branch to open an account. This is even when YOU are an account holder with the bank for a number of years.
One way of supporting IV and feeling good is to buy some IV merchandise.

I recently applied under 0213. I agree process is not as complicated as it sounds also I am not sure what value add a lawyer will do apart from keying information from you in the forms. My suggestion - do it on your own. dont be confused with "legal immigration", legal immigration in obama's world means family based immigration (vote bank politics) not EB immigration.
This is becuse about totally about 1 million people immigrate into US, out of which EB immigration is just 140K. Remaining are FB based. So, always EB is a piggy bag rider. In US, genereally immigration means family based immigration.

I'm assuming you are in the US now, and caught in this whole GC nightmare. If not, please ignore my mesg.
The US Immigration Law is a nightmare.

And i remember most of the people are sending letters only to President not a copy to IV.

Between my side i sent letter to president and requested 10 of my friends to do so..
it matters
when meetings take place on such issues, it's important to carry the large number of petition letters along...it has an important impact.
please do mail copies to iv also- can put them all in one envelope and send.
i have about 30 letters with me now (including 6 from another MN chapter members), many more are still in the works and i have friends working on it too...
