I would say fight back against the indirect discrimination against the Indian and Chinese nationals in the employment-based immigration.
If they want us to leave..then so be it..but they should say so directly. All India and Chinese EB immigrants please leave USA. Until that comes out of the US government directly, we can not be forced out through indirect policies.
Here are a few things you can do:
1) Withdraw all the $ you deposited in US banks from savings, checking, CDs and other investment accounts and setup an NRE account with an indian bank and move funds over. If you need you can bring back those funds in a day or two. Leave only bare minimum for your expenses in US banks. This would have an impact of ~$50K X 100K effect.
2) Do not leave the country just because the hopes of greencard are controlled, sqeeze out every $ from your jobs and economy as long as you are here.
3) Spend minimum and buy swadeshi when possible. Lets not give back even 10% of the income we make back into the economy. This is an economic blockade.
USCIS and US government has long harassed Indians in the name of greencard for a longtime and year after year we hear the same BS. Come on people, show some self-respect and fight back.
4) Those who are in foreclosure, stop paying your mortgage, your home is going to get foreclosed anyway.
5) Despite all this...those who still decide to leave to India, max out all your credit cards, leave your car in airport and abandon your home/apt without paying rent/mortgage for the few months before you leave.
TAKE all you can from your hard-lived and harassed lives out of this place before you do decide to move.
I am not keeping more than 5K in any of my US banks starting today. I am also pulling back from my mortgage application for 300K condo. I am determined to sell-off my investments in equities here and begin investing in BSE.

I agree with your points. Just adding few comments.
Huge debt for everyone? This is going to be the biggest problem because in US, we have a foundation for debt based economy (SSN, credit history, Credit score, credit ratings etc.) If you default the payment, you will have an effect and there will be an impact on future credit applications. There is nothing of this sort in India and the politicians will not allow such things to be setup as well. So essentially back to my point. Banks who lend money are at bigger risk of loosing it. There is nothing that they can do to report on consumer's default or fraud for that matter.
Now per say consumer dump the property or bank attaches it for non payment of loan amount, Bank will be stuck with properties worth 1/4th for those crores that they loaned to people, maintenance will cost them more to prepare it for sale.
In any account, there is a big problem ahead there.

He's been an advocate on backlog issues, and his staff had helped look into my case last year. I used his web site to send him an email (for VA residents only), slightly modifying the phone script to thank him, since I finally got my green card in November. Will post response when I receive it.

I suggest that you write at least two articles. First one should focus on our problems and costs involved at each stage for the current 5-7 years waiting period. A lot of guys out there against immigration do not currently know exactly how tuff it is these days to get a visa and come to US. Just imagine if somebody came to US on a student loan and was not able to get a job because of these visa problems as has started to happen over the last couple of years, how much financial burden he will have and how long it will take him to pay off these loans. explain how visa applicants are harassed buy the consulates, USCIS/DHS/DOS, lawyers, employers just because they can. Had everyone who came to US to study or work on his/her own merit been given a green card like visa as and when they wanted it, he/she would not be exploited, they would compete with any american citizen for a better pay (taking away the argument from the anti-immigrants that we are displacing the citizens by being underpaid). This I think would have taken away the argument that we are over populating the US or that we are immigrants for ever (not assimilating in the mainstream) because then we would be part of the mainstream and those who do not want to live in US forever (a significant number of people...leading to reduced immigration) could go back when they wanted. Look for all the problems we have to face on a day-to-day basis and ask whether we are asking more than some basic human rights and are we wrong in asking for these rights. Isn't it also one form of injustice when we are paying for medicare/social security without getting any benefits? Isn't it injustice when we cannot progress in our careers when we are stuck in this endless and ever increasing GC delays? Isn't it injustice when we are equated with the illegal immigrants? Isn't it injustice when we are asked to renew our status by paying ever increasing fees and endless documentation when there is no need unless one has left the country on his own and wishes to return? Does the country really need skilled immigrants and if it does why can't it allow them to live with some basic human rights and dignity. By denying the new immigrants these rights, dignity is the US promoting new-age slavery and forcing even the legal immigrants into shadows and back alleys of the society? Explore why some legal immigrants have to resort to illegal status (school going kids, family life, friends...age at which they migrate changes their social circle) when they cannot stay in status by legal means.
Once you have explored and educated your article readers about our situation, they will have a better understanding of what we are requesting the US govt is lot illegitimate and may even encourage some illegal immigrants into going the legal way.

Completely Agree with you. Rather have some process than none.People in the forum are talking a lot about visa recapture..
But how will this help if USCIS continues to disregard PDs utterly and just approve cases that they can lay their hands on....
Due to July 2 fiasco, pretty much everyone have filed I-485...Even those with 2007 PDs.
Say USCIS recaptures Visas, makes every category current and starts approving 2007 PD cases! Even worst, due to the every category 'C', may be 2008, 2009 (when it arrives) people start applying I-485 as well, and USCIS continues to consume all the visa numbers to to approve the cases of these lucky bas*$%^&ds (no offence!) with most recent PDs. How does this help you or me with older PDs waitin for years and years ! :(

- The capability of USCIS to screw up at every opportunity seems to be unlimited
- And the number of lucky bas*$%^&ds who get approved despite newest PDs seem to be unlimited too :)

Some of you have not posted much. Obviously, you found lot of things on this site that piqued your interest. I appreciate the fact that you did not hesitate to pull the trigger. Because of you, we can close this round and move to the final round.
I hope the final round starts with a person who visits this site regularly, find helpful suggestions and tips, and is generally happy with things moving in the right direction and knows IV is an important part of this process. Even though he supports the rally, he cannot come because he probably lives on the west coast, but would have definitely attended the rally if he or she were working in NJ, MD, PA, VA or any other neighboring states. He doesn�t have many questions to ask, but once in a while she does have a quick question, but rejects that idea because of the process involved. She knows that a user id is required to post any questions.

Thanks - I'll write a mail to the HR head to release 7001 on my request and will mention that they don't have to take responsibility. Enough is enough - i got another 2 yr H extension in July 08 so i should be good,anyway.
I'll keep you guys posted when i receive 7001 from HR by mail and i'll send it to Ombudsman office (along with that cover letter) immediately.
You should be fine. Everything we are doing is legal. We are not doing anything illegal by requesting Ombudsman's office to look into this processing delays.
